1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files a website or third party can place on a device. Browser local storage serves a similar purpose but is stored differently. This policy explains both because visitors should be able to understand and control persistent website storage.
2. Storage used by Alteralab
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| altera_cookie_preferences | Local storage | Necessary | Remembers whether optional external media is allowed and when the choice expires. | Up to 180 days |
3. External media
The Better Years video uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. The video frame is not loaded until you press the labelled Play video control. That explicit action allows external media and loads the player. Once loaded, YouTube may receive technical information and may use cookies or similar storage according to its own policies.
The first-party page and every ordinary link remain usable without loading the embedded video.
4. Managing your choice
Pressing Play video saves permission for external media so the requested player can open without a separate cookie popup. Use Cookie settings in the website footer to switch external media off again; doing so unloads any active video frame.
The website does not display a cookie banner during normal navigation. Clearing browser storage removes the saved choice, and the next video play action will save permission again.
5. Browser controls and updates
Your browser can also block or clear cookies and local storage. Blocking necessary storage will not stop the site from displaying, but it may prevent us from remembering your preference.
If Alteralab adds analytics, advertising, or another optional category, this policy and the preference controls should be updated before that technology is enabled for visitors.
